Home Study groups
Do you want to grow as a Christian? Do you sometimes feel that there’s a large time gap between Sundays, that the Sunday spiritual tonic is great but you‘d like to take your faith further? Would you like to get to know some of your fellow believers – or searchers – better? Would you like to find out more about prayer, about the Bible, about the Christian life? Well, if your answer is ‘Yes’ to any of these questions, then home groups are for you.
So what is a home group? Although it varies greatly and all home groups develop their own dynamics, generally speaking it’s a group of people meeting together in someone’s home on a regular basis to develop their Christian faith. This is not a new idea – in fact it is maintaining a tradition that goes back to the very origins of Christianity. “They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers” (Acts 2:42).
The format of the meetings will vary according to each individual group. Some are based around bible study, others will read and study a Christian book or just come together to pray. Some groups share a meal together, others just a cup of tea or coffee. but all include prayer and sharing, are positive, nurturing and supportive.
It is our experience that when people meet in Holy Trinity’s Home Groups they often begin as strangers or acquaintances, but grow to become friends - even as close as family. The groups provide an opportunity for Christian fellowship, a way for members to feel more connected to the church and each other, and ultimately we are led into a closer relationship with God.
If you are interested, at Holy Trinity there are a number of different groups to choose from. Most people attend the one nearest to them but it may be that the topic of one particular group suits you or you’re only free at a certain time of the day so go to the group that is best for you!
